The lost poster collection
For whatever reason there is a growing nostalgic aesthetic — just look at the success of Hipstamatic and Instagram for examples. If the studio had a time machine this is what we would have designed for boutique chocolatiers Bloomsberry & Co in the golded age of advertising to promote their Emergency Chocolate. As it happens we have just that.
Belgium.
No country is more renown for making chocolate than Belgium, a fact celebrated in this poster that also challenges their reputation for being a bit dull. I mean seriously, this country built a giant atom for the 1958 World fair that, according to structural engineers should collapse in an 80kp/h wind. Dull? Far from it. So too is the fact that Bloomsberry & Co’s chocolate is now made in Belgium.
The Matterhorn.
Just look at it: a majestic 4,478 metres high towering over just about everything else in the Alps. First climbed in 1865 it has taken more lives than just about any other peak in Europe (about 4 a year). If ever there was an excuse for emergency chocolate this is it.
Survival Equipment.
The humble compact is a more powerful tool that many of us give credit for. I’ve watched Charlie’s Angels. The disguises Kelly and Jill used for their undercover work were almost entirely contained in their make-up bag. It’s more valuable than a skeleton key for getting into trouble and more useful than a Swiss Army knife for getting out of it.
